Every parkrun tells a story

The muted green line steps up by one every time I run somewhere new, and it only breaks when I come back to a venue I've already done. Coral dots are those resets. Every step up is a brand-new parkrun location visited for the first time, the line can only climb. Steep stretches are bursts of tourism; flat stretches are home-turf seasons. Ringed numbers mark the 10th, 25th and 50th new location, and the coral dot is where I stand today. Hover or tap any step for the location and the date I first ran it.

Each bar is a one-minute band, split by effort: the tall stack around 20–21 minutes is my racing zone, and the long tail to the right is easy days, walks and hilly tourism. My fastest and median are marked, and the coral figure top-right is my racing average (hard efforts only). Each spoke is one parkrun, in order and clockwise from the top. Runs sit in three rings by effort: hard races on the outside, easy cruises in the middle, walks near the centre, and within each ring the faster runs reach further out. Each dot is one parkrun, placed by the share of the field I placed above that day and stacked when runs land on the same percentile. The tall towers at the far right are the point: my typical run places above 94% of everyone who showed up. Podium days glow gold; the little colony on the far left is walk days. Every faint strand is one race: its five kms plotted as % above or below that run's own average pace, coloured by year. The bold black line with the labelled numbers is my median shape: fast start, mid fade, finish kick. Pacing discipline shows up in the legend, which lists each year's positive-split rate (the share of races I slowed in the back half); it's fallen from 100% in 2022 to about two-thirds now, so I'm pacing more evenly than I used to.
